Training and Capacity Building for Just Energy Transition Campaigners

A total of 25 participants representing three unions in the energy sector took part in the two-day “Capacity Building Training for Campaigners,” held on September 7–8, 2026, in Jakarta.
Originally planned for 30 participants, the training was, however, affected by the eruption of Child of Mount Krakatau which disrupted operations at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, resulting in the cancellation of several flights. These circumstances prevented some participants from attending, reducing the number of participants to 25.
The training is designed to equip leaders and union activists with conceptual understanding and practical skills in designing and implementing effective campaigns. Through the two-day learning process, participants is being introduced to the fundamentals of campaigning, guided in analyzing various campaign experiences, and helped to understand the connection between campaigns and advocacy.
Energy transition campaign strategies
Additionally, the training is aimed to enhance participants’ ability to develop concrete, operational energy transition campaign strategies that are relevant to the unions and sectoral interests. The development of these strategies utilized the “public pathway” perspective and was grounded in the principles enshrined in Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, particularly regarding resource management and an economy oriented toward the public interest.
Democratic public ownership
Through an approach that combines conceptual understanding, analysis of experiences, discussions, and practical exercises, the training is expected to strengthen the leaders and unions’ capacity to develop strategic, evidence-based campaigns that support a public pathway for just energy transition prioritizes workers’ rights, democratic public ownership, and community welfare over corporate profit and market-driven privatization.
Public policy advocacy
The involvement of unions in the formulation and implementation of public policy is not merely important; it plays a crucial political role, particularly in advocating for and protecting the interests of the electricity sector in Indonesia. Therefore, this training is essential for strengthening the skills of union leaders and enhancing the organization’s capacity to effectively formulate, communicate, and advocate for its positions throughout the public policy process.
SRI Institute
The training is conducted in collaboration with the SRI Institute, which served as the trainers and facilitator. The Institute developed and prepared the training modules and materials, which participants can adapt and utilize to suit their respective contexts and needs.
PLN IPRenewables
PT PLN Indonesia Power Renewables is a subsidiary of PT PLN Indonesia Power and an affiliate of state-owned enterprise PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) (“PLN”). The company’s current main business activity is developing investment businesses in the energy sector through participation in electricity projects. In addition, PT PLN Indonesia Power Renewables focuses on developing green energy through PT Indo Tenaga Hijau.
