JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Student protesters on Jenderal Sudirman Street in Central Jakarta highlighted the blockade by police that prevented them from proceeding to the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout on Friday (June 12, 2026).

The protesters were held back by a barricade of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) officers on Jenderal Sudirman Street, in front of the Thamrin Nine Building.
Traffic north bound on Jenderal Sudirman Street in the direction of Jakarta’s National Monument (Monas) was also paralyzed. Hafiz, a representative of the Student Executive Council (BEM) at the University of Indonesia (UI), said members of the public should have the full right to express their opinions in public.
According to Kompas.com journalists Ridho Danu Prasetyo and Ambaranie Nadia Kemala Movanita, the five demands being made by student protesters include:
1. Stop wastage of the government budget.
2. Lower the prices of basic necessities and fuel.
3. Halt the Free Nutritious School Meal (MBG) Program and the rollout of Red and White Village Cooperatives.
4. Stop the militarization of civilian life.
5. President Prabowo should stop denying and admit the government’s mistakes.
